Mapio FAQ

Wednesday, 01 August 2012 20:22

Sorry, this FAQ is outdated. Soon, it will be updated.

Can I try Visution Mapio before purchasing it?

Of course! We recommended that you do, especially if you have an old or rare video card because it’s important to make sure that your video card has the necessary OpenGL specifications required for Mapio to work efficiently. Just install Mapio and your video will be periodically interrupted with the display of the company logo, but fully functional.

How many computers can I install it on?

The license is granted for one computer (WINDOWS or MAC OS X). If you need to install the software on more than one machine, you need to buy the appropriate number of licenses. If you buy more than one license, the price is reduced to 125 Euro.

Can I get a discount if I am a student or represent an educational institution?

Yes, there is an academic 50% discount per license for educational purposes. An academic license prohibits the use of the product for commercial purposes. If you are a student or a representative of an educational institution, please send us your personal information (full name, address, phone, email, website and position within organization) along with an official student or employee identification card. There is also volume discount for educational institutions. That is, when you buy more than one academic license Visution Mapio will cost you 62.5 Euro per license (+ VAT for buyers in the Euro zone).

Are updates free?

All updates within the same version are free. For example, this current version of Visution Mapio 2.x.x would include up to 2.9, but not for the next version, 3.0.

How to buy a license?

Simply follow this link. You will find yourself on the page of our partner – Avangate.com, which processes payments for us. There you can select the language if it is not detected automatically and currency to be used in the bill. Check the list of products, enter the required number of licenses and the coupon if available. Enter the required information and select the desired payment system. Once we receive the payment and confirmation of purchase, you will get an email with a license code or codes (in accordance with the purchased number of licenses).

What purchase options are supported?

Visa/MasterCard/Eurocard, Bank/Wire transfer, American Express, PayPal, Discover/Novus, Diners Club, JCB, Fax, WebMoney.

I have a problem with the payment.

Try to find a solution in the Customer Support Area of our partner, Avangate.com.

I lost my license code. What should I do?

Contact our support team with the same email address used to purchase the software, and we will send you the activation code.

I have the activation key, how do I start ?

First, make sure Resolume / VDMX5 are not currently running, close application. Then install Visution Mapio. You can download it here. To activate, open the Visution Mapio Editor***, then click on the ‘About’ menu item, and enter your email address and activation key in the appropriate slots and then click on the button ‘Activate’. You will see a message displaying successful activation. Now you can start using the software.
*** Note: You must first start Resolume/VDMX5, then click on one video clip (play it), Go to the ‘Effects’ panel and scroll down until you find ‘Visution Mapio’ and select it and drag it to either the clip, layer or composition and click on the ‘Edit Mode’ button and the Visution Mapio Editor will appear.

I installed Mapio, what's next? How does Mapio work?

Since Mapio is a plugin / effect of FFGL specification, you need to run your application, which supports FFGL (FFGL host). For Resolume Avenue / Arena 3.x-4.x and VDMX5, the plugin is installed automatically. If there are no problems during the installation, you can find Visution Mapio effect in the list of effects in Resolume and VDMX5.

What if Visution Mapio does not appear in the list of effects after I install it?

Was Resolume currently running during the Visution Mapio installation ?  If so, close the application and re-install Visution Mapio. If that was not the problem, you can register the Visution Mapio plugin manually in Resolume: Go to the ‘Avenue’ menu, select ‘Preferences’, select ‘Video’ tab, and add (click on ‘ +  button’) the directory path of Visution Mapio under the ‘FreeFrame (FFGL) Plugin Directories’ (for example: C:\Program Files (x86)\Visution\Mapio)’. Note: Do not move this Visution Mapio folder to another location on your computer, otherwise future updates will not work.

Can I move Visution Mapio to another computer?

Yes, you can. Simply deactivate the license on the current machine and activate it on the other machine (for activation, follow the instructions under FAQ, “I have the license code, how do I start?”).

How do I apply a new version to Visution Mapio?

It’s simple.  Just install the new version (which will over-write your current version of Visution Mapio) and the license code will be automatically updated, and any previous presets and files (Visution Mapio file extension .mio) will be retained too. Note: this applies *only* to the same version, for example 1.6 to 1.7, 1.7 to 1.8, etc., but *not* to 2.0 which would be a new version).

What is the ‘Instance key’ in the list of parameters under Visution Mapio?

Visution Mapio project information and files are stored *outside* of Resolume/VDMX5 and other FFGL host programs. The ‘Instance key’ within the host program is a link to Visution Mapio. Each mapping project that you create has it’s own unique ‘Instance key’.

So how do you save your mapping project? You save it within the host program, for example with Resolume, you save your ‘Composition’ and the mapping project is automatically saved too. If you exit your host program and do not save, for example your Resolume Composition, your mapping project will be lost too. Then when you restart the host program and load for example your same Resolume Composition, it loads your mapping project too which is referenced by the ‘Instance key’.

ATTENTION: Do not use the ‘Presets’ drop down option to ‘Save, Save as, etc.’ that is displayed when you use the Visution Mapio plugin. It does not work with Visution and it will cause problems for your mapping project. It is strictly for the other effects in Resolume.

Note: the Visution Mapio files with extension .mio are the files that you ‘Load’ in the Visution Mapio Editor, they contain the areas, polygons, masks, etc. you created in the Editor. It is a good idea to make back ups of these files just in case.

Where are automatically saved mapping projects stored?

On MacOS X systems: ~ /Library/Application Support/visution/Mapio. Windows: c:\Users\<user>\AppData\visution\Mapio.

What coordinates of the area vertices are used in Visution Mapio Editor?

These are normalized coordinates in the range of 0.0 - 1.0. Lower left arc (vertices are / corner is) is 0.0, 0.0, upper right is arc (vertices are / corner is) 1.0, 1.0. In Mapio 2.0 we will add the ability to work with coordinates in pixels.

What is the best way to use Visution Mapio; on a clip, layer or composition?

The easiest way to use Visution Mapio is on the entire composition, that way all video clips conform to the mapping. However, you can apply it to an individual layer or clip and that way just the video clips on that layer or to that specific clip will conform to the mapping. Since it’s a plugin that is in a way treated like an “effect”, it can be applied several times to more than one layer, more than one clip, making it a very versatile and flexible mapping tool.

To add the plugin, select it from the “Effects” tab in Resolume (scroll down and look for “Visution Mapio”, alphabetical order) and drag it to the clip, layer or composition, then the Visution Mapio Editor will automatically appear. Please note: if the plugin is applied to just a clip or layer, you must have at least one video clip active/playing for the Editor to appear. Now you can start mapping ! Use the “?” menu for brief instructions (full “Help” menu coming soon).

When you have finished making a mapping, click on the “Save” button and give it an appropriate name (it does this automatically too, but it’s good practice to give it a name you recognize and can re-load if necessary). If you need to go back into the Editor and make more changes, enable the EDIT MODE in the list of parameters under the plugin. Lastly, be sure to disable the EDIT MODE when your mapping is completed and you are ready to present, ready to do your show, otherwise Visution Mapio will continue to use the CPU and GPU resources making it potentially less stable.

Side note: If you would like to add other effects from the Resolume list, you can, but it’s best to place them above this plugin because then the effect will run *within* the mapping and not *outside* of it - if that sounds confusing, just try it and you will understand more quickly then re-reading this text.

How to use the effects / FX in the Visution Mapio Editor?

Select an effect from the drop-down menu list “Current Fx:”, then click on the box left of the word “Enable”. Once enabled, the effect’s parameters will appear under the “Fx” tab. For effects such as “density of grid”, “vertical morph”, etc. that have blue dots appearing, place mouse over blue dots to adjust accordingly. The order of applying effects cannot be changed, but effects can always be adjusted, moved, etc. and thus this is just as sufficient as to re-ordering.

Can I change the position of individual nodes on the grid in the Warping effect?

The Warping effect allows you to move the reference network nodes all together or one by one. The size of the editing brush can be changed with the ALT/Option key + the mouse wheel or with a scrolling gesture. By reducing the brush to the minimum, you’ll be able to change the position of individual nodes.

ClipSA and FaderSA

This is a simple automation of the clip's position in the timeline through a step sequencer, which is made as FFGL plug-ins for Resolume Avenue 3. IR ClipSA allows You to automatic changing current clips like a ChaosMode in Resolume 2.хх.

Available Windows and MAC OS versions.

IR ClipSA and FaderSA contains of four modules differ in the number of steps.

Clip's control is made by OSC. Therefore,  there must be enable an OSC (Open Sound Control) which uses incoming port 7000.

Implemented as FFGL fx allows You to control the automation without switching to other applications.

IR ClipSA [4, 8, 16, 32] - Step-based automation to play a clip.

This is a simple automation of the clip's position in the timeline through a step sequencer, which is made as FFGL plug-ins for Resolume Avenue 3. IR ClipSA allows You to automatic change current clips like a ChaosMode in Resolume 2.xx. IR ClipSA Contains of four modules differ in the number of steps.

IR FaderSA [4, 8, 16, 32] - Step-based automation to change cross-fader position.

Installation:

Windows: Unzip and copy the IRClipSAxx.dll(IRFaderSAxx.dll) in the folder "C:\Program Files\Resolume Avenue 3.xx\plugins\vfx\" or any other folder but add this folder to the Resolume's preferences.

MAC OS: Unzip and copy the all bundle in the folder "/Applications/Resolume Avenue 3.x.x/plugins/vfx/" or any other folder but add this folder to the Resolume's preferences.

How to use:

Since the effect does not introduce changes in the image  it can be added to any place, but You should remember one thing, if the layer \ clip does not play at the moment then the effect will not work. Therefore recommended to add the effect into the composition then you can manage all your clips.

After adding the ClipSA  run parameter "Run" as Timeline or BPM Sync. And set the value for each step. The parameters of the "Layer N" and "Clip N"  select the desired clip. You can also set these settings to implement analog Chaos Mode if You automate standard means of Resolume.
"Layer N" = selects a layer from 1 to 5. and "Clip N" from 1 to 30.

And most importantly, this plug-ins is absolutely free.

IR OSCSA

Is analogue of IRFaderSA only now it is possible to enter any OSC a command.

OSC commands sends on localhost:7000 in bundle mode.
In Resolume Avenue works only since version 3.3.0.

Is freeware, enjoy!

IR Keystone2[3]

Freeware FFGL plug-ins for multi-screen (for Matrox dualhead/triplehead) keystone correction.

If you use a multi-screen setup with Resolume Avenue and the projector placement is not optimal, you probably will want to correct the projected image. But correction in the beamers is limited and looks not good, so ... you need this!

- up to 125000 video textured translucent screens in the matrix up to 50x50x50. Has a frame's buffer for delay effect. Total 24 control parameters.

image02IR Array Of Voxels

- array up to 500x500x128 colored particles. Has a frame's buffer for delay effect. Total 20 control parameters.

image04IR Fontan Of Screens

- fountain of translucent screens the total number to 5000. There is a simulation of gravity and speed control, the spread of emission screens. Total 19 control parameters.

image03IR MultiSphere

- build nested spheres in different ways: the particles, lines, planes. May be translucent. Has a frame buffer. Total 19 control parameters.

image04IR Tunnel

- Just a tunnel, you can control the quality of approximation (from the triangle in cross section to the perfect circle), number of segments and rings. To set the position, rotation and other parameters. Has a frame's buffer for delay effect. Total 14 control parameters.

Here you can download IR Cosmic Pack fully functional, but before you purchase the product's license - plug-ins will work in demo mode, output will periodically go black.

If before installing on your PC was installed Resolume Avenue, then no manual configuration is needed, will be done automatically, just run the Avenue and use it.

Requirements

1. All the requirements needed to run Resolume Avenue 3 for Windows or MAC OS X.
2. Graphics card supports OpenGL version 2.1 and later. This is NVidia GeForce 8xxx and better and ATI Radeon HD 2xxx, HD 3xxx, HD 4xxx, HD 5xxx and later.

For really interesting results requires powerful graphics card. Recommended graphics card NVidia GeForce 8400M GT and better, 9400M G and better. And a similar performance from ATI. For best results we recommend a video card with memory bus width at least 128 bits and 512MB or more video memory.

Check your card in Comparison of AMD graphics processing units or Comparison of Nvidia graphics processing units.

If you're unsure about the definition of your video card or its performance just try the demo version before buying.
